Practical use

Utilizing Nanotechnology for
- air and water purification;
- protection against mold, algae and microorganisms;
- reducing the risk of transmission of infections;
- and protecting surfaces against dirt.

The FN NANO®  multi-functional coatings are used to create functional surfaces that convert light energy into a force capable of

actively cleaning air and preventing dirt and microorganisms from accumulating.

It is the virtural 2nd generation of photocatalytic coatings developed by the Czech company Advanced materials-JTJ in cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, ICT Prague and other leading scientific institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad.

The surface FN NANO®  layer achieves up to 100% absolute photocatalytic efficiency is stronger by multiples of the efficiency of other competing products on the world market

The light-activated FN NANO®  surface keeps its functionality for a long time (even decades). In addition, actively making use of the UV light, the FN NANO® – coated surface layer blocks ultraviolet radiation and thus perfectly protects the substrate on which it is applied against its degradation effects.

FUNCTION

Air Cleansing, Pollution and Greenhouse Gas Remediation

The extraordinary photocatalytic efficiency and the special surface morphology of the FN NANO® coating  allows it to be  used as an air purifier  for efficient removal from a wide range of pollutants (pollutants and unpleasant odors in the air).

Until now, FN NANO®  is the only photocatalytic product on the market whose efficiency is such that HALF  of degradable pollutants are dissolved on average by a single contact  with the FN NANO® photocatalytic surface of the coating. This parameter is crucial for the air purification function and ensures high air purification efficiency both indoors and outdoors.

Note: At present,  competing coatings, coverings, paints of both domestic and foreign manufacturers (1st generation) achieve an efficiency of 1-8% pollutant decomposition with a single contact with their surface. Therefore, their actual effect on air purification is negligible.

Protection against deposition of microorganisms

The light-activated photocatalytic FN NANO®  surface has a strong antimicrobial effect. This effect is of a physical nature and its mechanism is based on the use of special coating morphology, its mineral composition, and the use of a semiconductor phenomenon in which light energy produces free electrons and electron holes on the porcine microcrystals of the titanium dioxide semiconductor.

Microorganisms cannot build immunity against this physical mechanism.

Moreover, this mechanism, unlike chemicals that cease to operate in a very short period of time from their use (most until they dry up), has a  permanent effect . Due to the non-chemical nature of the antimicrobial effect,  the use of FN NANO® do not apply legislative restrictions for chemical biocidal products! The only exception is a registered biocidal product – functional coating FN NANO® BioMax, which contains an active biocidal substance and combines its action with the physical antimicrobial mechanism – and this is required by law.

Note:  Coatings with low photocatalytic efficacy (1st generation) are naturally less effective in destroying microorganisms, so (unlike FN NANO®), they often “improve” their biocidal effect by adding chemistry whose effect is time-limited.

Self-cleaning surface, protection against dirt, mold and algae deposits

Photocatalytic FN NANO®  surface exhibits a super – strong, active self-cleaning function, on facades and roofs of the houses but also in the interior walls which will be exceptionally resistant to dirt dispersed in the air (soot, dust and grease microparticles) and the deposits of mold or algae. FN NANO®  treated surfaces remain clean for a long time.

Mechanism of action:

  • The photocatalytic effect creates a highly oxidizing surface that burns sticky organic substances (pyrene, tar, etc.) on dust particles.
  • The inorganic dirt residue is then removed from the surface as a result of airflow and rain.
  • In addition, the light-activated FN NANO®  surface actively prevents the settling of green algae, mold and consequently moss and lichen.
  • Also, FN NANO® surface has high resistance to spiders (and formation of spiderwebs) .

Perfect protection of building surfaces against degrading effects of ultraviolet radiation

The photocatalytic FN NANO®  surface contains a large number of titanium dioxide micro-crystals that absorb ultraviolet radiation. This material in the FN NANO®  coating prevents the penetration of ultraviolet radiation. In this way, it perfectly protects its substrate from its destructive effects, which are manifested by the cracked pain and the decomposition of organic binders, which make up a large part of paints, coatings and renders used in construction.

Antigraffiti remedy

The FN NANO®  coating allows easy removal of graffiti and makes it difficult to create more graffiti. Unlike other anti-graffiti coatings, it is fully vapor-permeable.

Antigraffiti effect is the result of several coating properties of FN NANO® coating:

  •   hydrophilicity = the molecular layer of water on the surface of the coating makes it harder to adhere paint or markers to the surface coated with FN NANO® ,
  •   the top surface material of the FN NANO®  layer absorbs a large amount of pigment and prevents its penetration to the substrate,
  • the relatively soft structure of the FN NANO®  layer material allows easy removal by mechanical means without damaging the substrate
  • The photocatalytic effect ensures self-cleaning of less soiled areas

To remove graffiti, mechanical means are sufficient –  brush and pressurized water. The surface need only be refresshed at the location where graffiti was removed.
